I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career.
I’ve lost almost 300 games.
26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot but missed.
I’ve failed over and over and over in my life.
And that is why I succeed.
These lines were spoken by one of the greatest basketball players of all time. It’s none other than “MICHAEL JORDAN”. He has had an impressive career having won 6 NBA championships, 14 MVP awards and the list goes on. But there were times in his life when he wanted to quit, but he kept himself going. Following are the 5 ways to keep yourself motivated just like Michael Jordan did.
1. Focus on the things that you can control and accept the ones you can’t
At times we lose focus of our dreams because of little setbacks like failing in an exam or losing that important match that could have potentially set the course of our lives. We have to understand that sometimes situations are not in our control but what we can control is our response to it.
2. Failing is better than not trying. Take action.
Could Jordan have been half the player he is today had he not failed countless times? The setbacks in his life strengthened him enough to take on the toughest of challenges. Don’t be afraid of failing, you are always just a few steps from success.
3. There is always a solution.
There’s a saying that goes “The pessimist always sees the difficulty in every opportunity but an optimist always sees opportunity in every difficulty”. Instead of asking “Why me, God?” try asking “Why not me?” and just go for it with all guns blazing. You will come up with amazing solutions to any problem.
4. Stop worrying too much. Believe you can and go for it.
We spend so much of our time in our heads that even a trivial problem seems colossal. Get out of that mental rut. Break the problems into smaller and simpler achievable steps and reward yourself for every milestone reached. Remember “A person who suffers before it is necessary suffers more than is necessary”.
5. Stop caring about what people might say.
You have probably heard this countless times. But that’s how important it is when you are out there trying to be the best version of yourself. Do the things you have always wanted to do and “Don’t let small minds convince you your dreams are not big enough”. Accept that there will always be people who are better than you but don’t let it deter you from doing what you love.
Don’t let small setbacks stop you from living your life to the fullest. Michael Jordan became the greatest player not because he was oh-so-talented but because he worked on himself day and night. Take these beliefs to heart and JUST DO IT.
